System Monitor App Reviews

Gorgeous, clean, simple interface

Everything is right there at a glance. I like the style of everything being monochrome and not attention grabbing. It displays useful info and is as customizable as needed.

Does what it says, but glitchy

I dont like that after a restart, that I have to physically turn on the program to get it to show up. Sometimes multiple meters of the same kind will pop up in your bar like 2 temp meters or cpu meters.

Fussy, glitchy

On a number of occasions, it needs to be manually started, even though its configured to start automatically . I cant determine what those conditions are -- it seems random. It also seems to use an awful amount of resources (RAM, CPU). Theres appears to be no way to lower the sampling frequency. The design of the settings configuration interface is clunky and not particularly elegant. Overall, its effective, if somewhat unpolished.

Just what I needed

I had been searching for an application to do just this. I spend a majority of my day on the computer and I like to know what my computer is up to. I usually have Activity Monitor, Fan Control (another app) and Network Utility up on one of my screens. I have two 27" monitors, so real estate isnt such an issue. I didnt mind it so much until I found this app. This app monitors everything I need and than some. I fiddled with the preferences for about 2 minutes and its set up. I just recently downloaded this app so I will keep an eye out for the "glitchyness" I read about in the other reviews. If all the "glitch" is this program not starting up at login, I dont think that is the biggest problem in the world. If you dont mind spending a little, definitely give this app a try.

Imcorrect disk usage versus finder

I am frustrated that the disk free space is not reporting the same value as finder.

monitor my stuff

This app is really great have been using this app for a few years. I like the fact I can see what is going on with my mac by just looking up to menu bar. I love the temp and internet part because I can see how well my internet is doing and also with temp it allows me to see if I have a run away app. very nice keep up the good work on this app. A must buy if you care about your computer.

Very nice

I had been using Temperature Monitor and when that became unavailable, I decided to try System Monitor. I like it very much. It has already helped me figure out whats going on a couple of times when there seemed to be more activity than I thought there should be. The only quibble about the app is the fact that to use it full out, it takes up a great deal of precious MenuBar real estate on my 15 inch MBP. However, this led me to another app (Bartender, not in the App Store) to manage the MenuBar, and now that thats installed, I can have my realtime System Monitor display and easily access my other MenuBar items too. One other point: early on, I found it instructive to run Activity Monitor while also looking at the System Monitor display. I think doing that increases ones understanding of just what one is looking at. (Once youve done that for a few minutes, you wont need to do it again.)

Love It

This app gives you so much info at a glance it has become a must have for me.

Useful for System Micromanagers (like me)

This program could be TMI for normal users, but heaven for Those Who Need To Know™. Works great. 1) You control exactly what you want to see, and how you want to see it. So if you only need one thing, like the flashy lights for disk/network activity, you can eliminate the rest. What you see is precisely customizable to your specific needs. 2) Clicking on an item gives you a dropdown w/ DETAILED info about that item. Yippee! 3) It looks wide & cluttery, but it’s only as wide & cluttery as you want. You can even control the width of the histrograms, or eliminate the ones you don’t need, or use bar graphs, or percentages, or all of the above… You can add spaces wherever you need to create clarity, even w/in each item. 4) You can control the order in which the items appear across the menu bar to your liking. 5) When you open programs with a bunch of menu bar items, they’ll replace the System Monitor items while that program is active, so there’s no interference w/ the functionality of the apps you’re using. (Protip: put the SysMon items you want to see all the time on the *right* side of the list.) Bresink has been developing useful utilities for Mac OS for what seems forever, quality is *never* an issue. Anyone who doesn’t give this 4 or 5 stars either didn’t need it to begin with, or isn’t configuring it to their specific needs. (Full Disclosure: I have no affiliation w/ this developer aside from purchasing his stuff for more than a decade.)

Perfect for what I need

Provides an in depth view of my computer at all times. Great and easy to setup monitor with well though out customizations. Well done!
